Weeknotes S01 E01
So I started a new job, and there’s nothing like a new job to make you re-evaluate all other aspects of your life. It’s always bothered me how little I write in public, especially since starting a family, so with the sincere intention of doing this regularly I’m giving weeknotes a try.
Having left mySociety after 8 happy years, I’m now a Lead Design Manager at Futuregov (or are they called something else now?).
My first week has been all about induction, orientation, meeting people, deepdiving into their Miro boards, Trello cards and Google Drive folders to see, if by looking at their previous work, I can try and work out what is expected of me.
I’ve spent many hours on ‘coffee’ calls — now realising I didn’t see much coffee — 30 minute or so chats with various people to do introductions and put names to faces, and let me tell you I’ve been having a blast. As exhausting as it is meeting all these people over video calls it’s been great to chat, not just about work but also backgrounds and interests and all that good stuff.
Now, at the end of my first week I’ve started to think about the future. The role I’ve taken is a new one, and many of the team are still quite new to the organisation, so I think I need to get comfortable with lettings things be unclear and just ‘finding out as we go’ for a while.
